LUCKNOW || A state of high alert has been sounded in varsities across Uttar Pradesh after violence rocked the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, an official of the home department said on Monday. Vigil has been stepped up in the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi and the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Aligarh.
Some students groups gathered at the AMU late on Sunday as the news of the violent mob attack at JNU spread but police was deployed in extra numbers to ensure that there was no violence. Allahabad University in Prayagraj is also under the vigil of the UP Police as students here are active in such matters.
At some places, police have done barricading and water cannons have also been put in place to contain any violent mass protests by students to express solidarity with the JNU students.
