New Delhi, September 2 (TNA) The Indian government has issued a warning for Android users after identifying a wave of malicious applications disguised as pornographic apps and circulated through social media advertisements. Officials said the apps are being used by cybercriminals to take control of smartphones and carry out financial fraud.
According to the advisory, the fake apps are being promoted on Facebook and Instagram under names including Night Play, Reloop, Kyss, Vimo, Rivo, Nexo and Vixa. The National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit said some of these apps exploit Accessibility permissions, allowing attackers to misuse device access and potentially drain bank accounts.
The government has urged users to install applications only from trusted app stores, avoid APK files shared through ads or unknown links, and keep Google Play Protect turned on. It also advised people to immediately remove unfamiliar apps and report suspected fraud through the cybercrime helpline 1930.
