Mumbai, August 25 (TNA) Indian benchmark indices opened in the red on Tuesday, with the Sensex slipping 114 points to 77,254.45 and the Nifty declining 59 points to 24,159.30 in early trade. Weak market sentiment and elevated oil prices weighed on investor mood at the opening bell.
The Nifty opened below the 24,200 mark, and the broader market started on a cautious note as traders tracked global cues, crude trends and domestic risk sentiment. Exchange data showed the Nifty opening at 24,175.75 against the previous close of 24,219.05, before stabilising near 24,147 in early trade.
Market watchers said the gap-down start reflected pressure from higher commodity prices and nervousness in global markets. In early trade, both benchmark indices remained under pressure, extending the cautious tone seen in recent sessions.
At around 9:21 am, the Nifty was still trading lower, and the Sensex was hovering in the red, indicating that sellers were active in the opening hour. The broader tone suggested that investors were likely to stay selective until clearer global and domestic signals emerged.
