Mumbai, September 11 (TNA) Indian share markets opened on a weak note on Friday, with benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 starting in the red amid a sharp spike in crude oil prices and negative global cues.
GIFT Nifty was trading down about 107–117 points (0.46–0.5%) around 23,343–23,352, indicating a gap-down opening for the domestic bourses. At the open, the BSE Sensex slipped from Thursday’s close of 74,902.59, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell below the 23,450 mark after opening around 23,380–23,400, tracking weakness in Asian peers and Brent crude hovering near $108–109 a barrel.
Market analysts said the key drag was the renewed surge in oil prices on escalating Middle East tensions, which has stoked inflation and fiscal deficit concerns and kept risk appetite subdued. On Thursday, Sensex had gained 138.36 points (0.19%) to 74,902.59, and Nifty rose 46.30 points (0.20%) to 23,477.80, with a sharp recovery in the closing auction session helping the indices rebound from intraday lows.
Early trade today saw pressure on rate-sensitive and oil-linked sectors, while investors awaited further cues from global markets and domestic macro data.
