Mumbai, October 23 (TNA) Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday, recovering partly from the previous session’s sharp decline and tracking a positive signal from the GIFT Nifty. The BSE Sensex opened at 73,684.15, up 434.76 points, or 0.59%, from Thursday’s close. The Nifty 50 rose 75.70 points, or 0.33%, to move above the 22,700 mark in early trade.
The opening gains followed a weak session on Thursday, when the Sensex fell 460.30 points to 73,249.39, and the Nifty declined 123.70 points to 22,687.65. The previous session marked the third consecutive decline for both benchmarks.
Global cues mixed
The positive opening was supported by GIFT Nifty futures, which had risen about 0.53% to 22,836 before the market opened. However, Asian shares remained under pressure, limiting the strength of the domestic recovery.
Investors continued to monitor crude-oil prices, which had climbed above $110 a barrel amid heightened geopolitical tensions. Higher oil prices remain a concern for India because the country is heavily dependent on imports to meet its energy requirements.
Stocks in focus
Market participants are tracking companies including Swiggy, Cyient, Colgate-Palmolive, eMudhra, Petronet LNG, NLC India, Bluestone Jewellery and other firms scheduled to report developments or quarterly results.
The Jio Platforms IPO also remains in focus after strong investor demand during its first two days of subscription. Analysts said volatility could remain elevated as traders assess crude prices, global market movements, foreign fund flows and corporate earnings.
