New Delhi, November 5 (TNA) Two people were killed after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Old Delhi’s Chawri Bazaar on Thursday morning, officials said. The incident was reported at around 9:50 a.m. in Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazaar Metro Station.

One person was reported injured, while several others were feared trapped under the debris. Rescue teams were working to locate and evacuate anyone still trapped at the site.

Rescue operation underway

At least six fire units, including water tenders and rescue vehicles, were dispatched to the spot. Senior officials were supervising the operation as rescuers cleared the debris and searched the collapsed structure. Four people had reportedly been rescued during the initial phase of the operation, while efforts continued to reach those believed to be trapped. The narrow lanes in the crowded market area posed challenges for emergency teams.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse. Officials are expected to examine the building’s construction status, structural condition and compliance with safety regulations. The identities of the deceased and further details about the injured and missing persons were awaited as the rescue operation continued. The site was also reported to have been closed by the authorities pending inspection.
