A large number of Asian Openbill Storks died after two trees they had been nesting in for a long time were uprooted during a storm in Jorhat two days ago. Around 75 birds were rescued alive and sent to the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Kaziranga in critical condition.
Centre veterinarian Bhaskar Choudhury said some of the rescued birds died while being transported to Kaziranga. Veterinary doctors and staff are continuing efforts to treat and stabilise the injured birds.
