New Delhi, October 12 (TNA) Entry and exit at six Delhi Metro stations in central Delhi will remain closed until 4 pm on Monday, October 12, in view of the Opposition’s proposed march to the Supreme Court. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) cited security reasons for the temporary restriction.
The affected stations are:
• Patel Chowk
• Janpath
• Rajiv Chowk
• Mandi House
• Central Secretariat
• Barakhamba Road
The closure will remain in force from 6 am to 4 pm. Interchange facilities at the affected stations will continue to operate, allowing passengers to change lines where permitted.
The Congress and other INDIA bloc parties have planned the march as part of their ongoing protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process. Rahul Gandhi is expected to lead the demonstration.
Delhi Traffic Police has also issued an advisory warning commuters about restrictions, diversions and possible congestion in central Delhi. Traffic curbs are expected around routes leading towards the Supreme Court and other protest-related locations.
The security measures come a day after the Supreme Court directed authorities to ensure the normal functioning of metro and railway services and said peaceful, unarmed protesters should not be detained except according to due legal procedure.
