Srinagar Garhwal, October 18 (TNA) An uncontrolled oil tanker crashed into a roadside clinic on the Badrinath National Highway late Saturday night, damaging the clinic and two nearby shops, officials said. The accident occurred near the SBI square in Srinagar Garhwal when the tanker reportedly went out of control and veered off the highway. It then rammed into the clinic and surrounding commercial establishments.
The impact severely damaged the clinic and two shops. A parked scooter was also crushed, while a car near the site sustained damage. The tanker itself was badly damaged in the collision. The crash caused panic among residents and shopkeepers in the area. A major disaster was reportedly avoided because the incident occurred late at night, when fewer people were present near the roadside establishments.
Police and local authorities reached the site after receiving information about the accident. The tanker was removed, and the area was inspected to assess the extent of the damage and ensure that there was no fuel leak or further danger.
No deaths or serious injuries were immediately reported in connection with the crash. Police have begun examining the circumstances that led to the tanker losing control, including possible speeding, driver fatigue or a mechanical failure.
The accident temporarily affected movement along the Badrinath Highway. Authorities were expected to clear the damaged vehicles and inspect the road before restoring normal traffic flow. The incident has renewed concerns over road safety along the busy highway, particularly in stretches where commercial establishments and residential areas are located close to the carriageway.
