New Delhi, November 6 (TNA) A fire broke out at a shop in Karol Bagh’s Gaffar Market in the early hours of Friday, triggering a large emergency response just days before Diwali and on the occasion of Dhanteras.
The blaze was reported at a shop in Puri Plaza, located in Block 13’s Chain Wali Gali area of the crowded market. The Delhi Fire Service deployed 22 fire tenders to contain the flames.
Firefighting Operation Underway
Additional water bowsers and lighting equipment were sent to the location to support the firefighting operation. Firefighters were working to bring the blaze under control, while police and emergency personnel reached the market area.
The dense layout of the market and the presence of shops carrying electrical goods and other commercial stock posed challenges for the rescue and firefighting teams. Officials were yet to confirm the cause of the fire.
Damage and Casualties Awaited
There were no immediate official reports of deaths or injuries. The extent of damage to the shop and nearby premises was also not known at the time of reporting.
The incident comes as Delhi markets experience heavy footfall ahead of Diwali, with Karol Bagh among the city’s major shopping destinations. Authorities are expected to assess the site after the flames are extinguished and determine whether safety violations contributed to the incident.
