New Delhi, September 24 (TNA) Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), in association with the Border Security Force, has seized 12 Kg of gold smuggled from Bangladesh. The Ministry of Finance said that there have been a number of crackdowns across the India-Bangladesh border to curb cross-border gold smuggling.
It noted that around 12 KGs of foreign-origin gold worth 17 crore rupees has been seized from different locations in Bihar and Bengal sharing a border with Bangladesh. The recovery showcases the vulnerability of the region to such smuggling.
The Ministry of Finance further informed that between the 20th and 21st of the month, BSF personnel recovered 27 pieces of unclaimed foreign-origin smuggled gold weighing around 3.15 kg near the India-Bangladesh Border Road, and DRI took up the proceedings and seized the gold under the Customs Act, 1962.
In another recovery in West Bengal, BSF personnel recovered 10 pieces of foreign-origin smuggled gold weighing around 1.16 kg in Village Hathkhola, ahead of the India-Bangladesh Border Fence.
