New Delhi, September 28 (TNA) The Delhi government has announced a series of measures to control air pollution during the winter months, including restrictions on construction and demolition work, work-from-home arrangements for offices and higher parking fees. The measures will remain in force from November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
Under the plan, parking charges at authorised parking sites will be doubled from November 1 to discourage the use of private vehicles. Parking facilities owned and managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will remain exempt from the increase.
The government and private offices have been advised to reduce their in-office workforce by 50 per cent during the winter period. Half of the employees will work from home, while the remaining staff will work from the office.
Dust-generating demolition work and outdoor civil construction activities will be prohibited from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027. Essential public infrastructure projects may be exempted under the guidelines.
The restrictions will become stricter from December 10, when a complete ban on construction and demolition activities will come into force. The ban is scheduled to remain in place until January 20, 2027.
The winter action plan also includes staggered timings for government offices, with the aim of reducing traffic congestion, limiting private vehicle use and lowering emissions during the period when Delhi’s air quality typically deteriorates.
