Serbia, August 23 (TNA) In Serbia, firefighters are battling a major wildfire in the Deliblato Sands nature reserve, with European Union assistance provided to help tackle the blaze.
The wildfire has been burning for weeks through dunes and woodland, around 80 kilometres from Belgrade.
Serbia activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism on Friday, with European aid including four Black Hawk firefighting helicopters, 55 firefighters and 24 vehicles from Germany, and 69 firefighters and 15 vehicles from Romania.
Officials said the situation was more stable on Saturday, but strong winds were expected, with protecting settlements and human lives as the priority.
