Nagoya, September 30 (TNA) Indian athlete Vithya Ramraj won a gold medal after being part of India’s victorious women’s 4x400m relay team at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. The Indian quartet of Kiran Pahal, Machettira Poovamma, Prachi Choudhary and Vithya Ramraj clocked 3:29.69 in the final to finish on top of the podium. Bahrain finished second in 3:30.21.
The victory gave India its first athletics gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and marked the country’s first gold in the women’s 4x400m relay at the event.
Vithya’s Third Medal
The gold was Vithya Ramraj’s third medal at the Games. She had earlier won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles after clocking 54.75 seconds and breaking the long-standing national record associated with P T Usha.
Vithya said the relay gold was especially meaningful because it was a team achievement. She credited her teammates and supporters for helping India secure the landmark victory. The Indian runners held their composure in a closely contested final and finished ahead of Bahrain to add another major athletics medal to the country’s Asian Games campaign.
