Lausanne, August 22 (TNA) Neeraj Chopra produced a season-best throw of 88.05m to finish second at the Diamond League meet in Lausanne, falling just nine centimetres short of victory in a closely fought men’s javelin competition.

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the event with 88.14m, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters took third with 86.69m. Chopra opened with a throw of 83.54m before finding his rhythm with a superb 88.05m effort on his second attempt, which briefly moved him into the lead.

That mark stood as his best of the 2026 season and also his strongest throw since 88.16m at the Paris Diamond League in June 2025. Pathirage responded with 88.14m to reclaim first place, leaving Chopra to settle for second in a contest separated by only 0.09m.

Chopra then recorded 83.72m, followed by a no-mark in the fourth round; he skipped his fifth attempt and finished with 82.15m in his final throw. The result nevertheless offered an encouraging sign for the Indian star, whose form appears to be building at the right time ahead of major international competitions, including his Asian Games title defence next month.
