Moqi, China, September 13 (TNA) India’s Junior Men’s Hockey Team were crowned champions of the 2026 Men’s Junior Asia Cup after a commanding 4-1 victory over South Korea in the final on Sunday, securing a record-extending sixth continental title.
The triumph at the Moqi Training Base in China saw India successfully defend their crown and qualify for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2027. It was also India’s fourth consecutive Junior Men’s Asia Cup title, underlining the team’s dominance at the continental age-group level.
India produced a clinical display in the final against South Korea, maintaining control for long spells and converting their opportunities to seal an emphatic three-goal win. The result gave the Indian side its sixth Junior Men’s Asia Cup crown, extending its lead as the tournament’s most successful team. The victory followed another strong campaign by the Indian junior set-up and reinforced the country’s depth in men’s hockey.
Along with the title, India earned qualification for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2027. The achievement is expected to give the young side a significant confidence boost ahead of the global competition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team after the final, praising the junior players for their “immense talent” and their 4-1 victory over South Korea.
India’s junior women’s hockey team also won the AHF Junior Women’s Asia Cup title earlier on Sunday, defeating hosts China 1-0 in the final. Sanika Chandrakant Mane scored the decisive goal in the 17th minute as India won the women’s title for a third consecutive time and qualified for the Junior Women’s World Cup.
The twin titles made it a memorable day for Indian hockey, with both the junior men’s and women’s teams lifting continental trophies in Moqi.
