Lucknow, October 9 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh is moving steadily towards energy self-reliance, with adequate electricity supply across all 75 districts and a strong push for renewable energy, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said on Friday.

He was addressing Uttar Pradesh Urja Sangam 2026, organised by the ASSOCHAM-India Uttar Pradesh State Development Council in association with UPNEDA and Invest UP. The event was held at the Renaissance Hotel in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. Pathak highlighted the state’s progress in solar energy adoption and the implementation of solar energy schemes.

Pathak said the PM-KUSUM scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is creating opportunities for farmers to adopt solar energy for irrigation and reduce their dependence on conventional electricity. Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, households are installing rooftop solar panels with the benefit of subsidies, contributing to energy conservation, lower electricity expenses and environmental sustainability.

Solar energy offers farmers dual benefits by reducing irrigation costs and creating an additional source of income. The state government provides free electricity for irrigation, while farmers can install solar systems on tubewells, rooftops and unused land to meet their energy needs and earn additional income by supplying surplus power to the grid.

ASSOCHAM Uttar Pradesh Regional Director Rajeev Dixit, Radico Khaitan Ltd. Senior Vice-President Anshu Srivastava, Soura Deep Guha and other industry representatives attended the event.

Solar Policy Strengthens Investment and Green Energy Development

Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Advisor to the Chief Minister, said Uttar Pradesh introduced its new solar energy policy in September 2022 under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to expand clean energy generation and encourage investment. He noted that the state ranks first nationally in solar panel installations and fifth in solar energy capacity. Uttar Pradesh also has approximately 45–50 operational compressed biogas (CBG) plants, reflecting the expansion of its clean energy ecosystem.

The programme included two technical sessions. The first focused on electrolyser manufacturing, green hydrogen technologies and emerging investment opportunities in the sector. The second covered solar energy manufacturing, floating solar projects, project execution, and the PM Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM schemes. During the session, speakers and participants shared suggestions to strengthen the renewable energy ecosystem, improve the ease of doing business, and streamline and accelerate approval processes for clean energy projects.

Investment in clean energy, modern power infrastructure and greater farmer participation are supporting Uttar Pradesh’s industrial and economic transformation. The expansion of green energy is creating opportunities for employment, investment and sustainable development while reinforcing the state’s contribution to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
