Shamli, August 31 (TNA) Two 50,000-rupee reward-carrying shooters wanted in the Ankit Baliyan murder case died during treatment after being injured in a police encounter in Shamli on Sunday, officials said. The exchange of fire took place near the Indian Gas godown on Kairana Road in the Kotwali area, where two SWAT team personnel were also injured.

According to police, the joint team of Kotwali Shamli police, Jhijhana police and the SWAT team came under fire during an operation, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence. The injured suspects, identified as Mohit and Sumit, were taken to the district joint hospital in Shamli, where doctors declared them dead during treatment.

Police said head constables Harvinder and Pradeep of the SWAT team were injured in the incident. A 30-bore pistol, live and spent cartridges, another pistol, a Splendour motorcycle, a bag, a mobile phone and Rs 5,000 in cash were recovered from the spot.

Mohit, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana, was about 22 years old, while Sumit, also from Sonipat, was about 24, police said. Officials added that Mohit was wanted in around 14 cases in Haryana, while Sumit had one registered case, and further verification of their criminal records is underway.

The action comes days after singer and YouTuber Ankit Baliyan was shot dead outside a gym in Shamli, triggering a major police hunt and multiple teams being deployed to trace the assailants.
