Greater Noida, September 24 (TNA) At least nine people were killed, and several others were injured after a tourist bus travelling from Delhi to Mahoba caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida late Wednesday night.
The incident took place near Dayanatpur village in the Jewar area. The bus, bearing registration number BR32 PA8647, belonged to Raj Kalpana Travels and was reportedly carrying around 35 passengers.
According to preliminary reports, the driver stopped the bus on the roadside after noticing the fire. Several passengers managed to escape by jumping through the windows as the flames spread rapidly through the vehicle. However, some passengers remained trapped inside and died in the blaze.
The injured passengers were taken to a nearby Kailash Hospital for treatment. Among those reported dead were women, elderly passengers and a child with disabilities. The identities of the victims were yet to be officially released.
Firefighters reached the spot and brought the blaze under control after nearly 30 minutes. Traffic on the expressway was temporarily halted near the Jewar toll plaza and the Phaleda cut as a safety measure before being restored.
The exact cause of the fire has not been established. Police and fire officials are investigating how the blaze started and why it spread so quickly through the sleeper bus.
