Lucknow, August 28 (TNA) A 50-year-old woman from Indiranagar died of swine flu at Balrampur Hospital on Thursday, marking the first death from the infection in the city this season, officials said. The patient had initially developed a cold, fever and breathing difficulties a few days earlier and was first treated at a private hospital, but her condition did not improve.

She was admitted to Balrampur Hospital on August 25 after doctors suspected swine flu based on her symptoms. Her test report later confirmed the infection, according to reports. During treatment, her breathing worsened steadily, and she was placed on oxygen support and life-saving equipment, but she died around 2:30 pm on Thursday despite doctors’ efforts.

Doctors have cautioned that swine flu symptoms can begin like a common viral infection, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and weakness, but breathing trouble and falling oxygen levels are warning signs that require immediate hospital care. After the death, the health department has stepped up surveillance of the infection’s spread in the city.

Health officials are now expected to review the woman’s travel history and trace people who may have come in contact with her. Her family members have been advised to remain isolated for the time being, while the health department has also provided them with necessary medicines and precautionary guidance.
