Police Launch Excavation
The action began after police received information about cash allegedly buried inside the house. A team surrounded the property and carried out excavation, leading to the recovery of several drums containing currency bundles.
Senior police officers reached the spot as officials from banks and other departments joined the operation to count and secure the money. The counting continued for several hours because of the large volume of cash involved.
Accused Detained
According to reports, the accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned about the source of the money and the reason it was concealed underground. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sonam Kumar confirmed that a large amount of cash had been recovered from the property.
Investigators are examining financial records and other evidence to determine whether the money is linked to illegal activities, undisclosed business transactions or any other criminal case. Police have not yet released a final figure or disclosed the full identity of the accused.
Official Amount Awaited
Although sources have estimated the total recovery at more than ₹60 crore, officials have cautioned that the figure remains unverified. The final amount will be announced after the currency is fully counted and the seizure documentation is completed.
The cash is expected to be formally seized under applicable legal procedures, after which the police may involve income-tax and other financial investigation agencies to trace its origin. Further details are likely once questioning and verification are completed.
