Lucknow, September 25 (TNA) Continuous rainfall for more than 29 hours brought a marked dip in temperatures in the state capital on Friday, with light winds adding to the chill in the air. The maximum temperature was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 22.4 degrees Celsius, leaving just a 1.1-degree difference between the two.
Weather conditions improved only slightly in some areas as persistent showers continued across the city, pulling down the mercury by 9.7 degrees Celsius compared with earlier readings, according to the inputs provided. The rain has also triggered widespread waterlogging in localities such as Jankipuram Extension and Gomti Nagar Extension, where roads and parks were submerged.
Several neighbourhoods remained effectively cut off, with residents staying indoors as the downpour continued through the day. Traffic movement on key stretches slowed dramatically in the evening, especially on Hazratganj and Kanpur Road, before easing later at night after public transport services were affected.
The district administration has ordered schools up to Class 12 to remain shut on September 26 in view of the rain and weather conditions. The closure comes amid fresh warnings of heavy rainfall and waterlogging across the city and nearby districts.
The weather also disrupted air travel, with a flight from Amausi Airport to Ranchi cancelled due to the rain, while the city’s Amausi centre recorded 50.6 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation as more showers remain possible.
