Etawah, October 7 (TNA) A woman’s body was recovered in a sack from the Yamuna riverbank in Etawah, triggering a police investigation into the death of a student who had gone missing from Agra on 29 September. The body was found near Miholi village in the Barhpura area, and the victim was identified as a young woman from Agra’s Bah police station limits.

According to reports, the student had been staying in a PG accommodation in Agra’s MM Gate area while preparing for competitive exams. Her family said they spoke to her regularly until 29 September, after which she became unreachable.

Police had earlier detained a revenue official, identified in reports as a lekhpal posted in Fatehabad tehsil, after questioning revealed that the body and mobile phone may have been thrown into the Yamuna. The accused reportedly told police that the woman died after hanging herself, after which he disposed of the body out of fear.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and are awaiting forensic findings, while a magisterial inquiry and further legal action are underway.
