KANPUR || In a heart-wrenching incident, a couple committed suicide in Kanpur after the husband, the bread earner of the house lost his job during the COVID-19 lockdown, media reports say. The incident took place in New Azadnagar area of Kanpur. The deceased Prince (35) worked for a Pharma company in Lucknow.
He lost his job during the COVID pandemic after which he started having tiffs with his wife almost on a daily basis. The fights centred around lack of money and food, father of the deceased, Rajendra Verma, who works as a security guard said. The duo had married in 2018 and a baby boy was born to them in 2019.
The woman Chandrika (30) soon after his husband committed suicide went to the bedroom and hung herself. As the couple killed themselves, their one-year-old son was playing outside the room.
Police officer Pushpraj Singh a probe is being conducted into the possible reasons behind the twin suicide but added that prima facie it appears that the couple killed themselves owing to poverty and domestic strife. The Uttar Pradesh unit of the Indian National Congress tweeted the news link and slammed the Yogi Adityanath government saying it was busy making false claims while the reality on the ground was scary.
