NEW DELHI || Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was remembered by a grateful nation on his dear anniversary on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the former prime minister, who was assassinated by a human bomb in Sri Perambudur in Tamil Nadu in 1991.
“On his death anniversary, tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi“, the Prime Minister said in a tweet from his official account. Other leaders too paid glowing tributes to the late leader.
Tej Pratap Yadav, leader of the RJD remembered Rajiv Gandhi in a tweet and shared two throwback pictures of Gandhi. He credited him for ushering in the telecom revolution in India and one who expanded the vision of Panchayati Raj. Many Congress leaders have also recalled the conribution of Rajib Gandhi in building a modern India.
In a great initiative, Congress also issued a statement saying that the money hitherto spent on advertisements to remember its late leader this time would be spent on migrant labourers. Rajiv Gandhi was the eldest son of late prime minister Indira Gandhi and was prime minister of India between 1984-89.
