LUCKNOW || At last ten people have been killed and over a dozen injured as an LPG cylinder exploded in a house in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning, police said. Due to the impact of the blast, the two-storey house was trend into rubble. Senior police and district officials have since rushed to the accident site and are overseeing the rescue and relief operations.
Police fear more people could be trapped under the debris. The tragic incident took place on Monday morning around 7:30 am in Waleedpur village.
An official told The News Agency that preliminary probe suggests that there was some kind of leakage in the cooking gas cylinder and since food was being cooked it exploded and the entire house caught fire.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the incident and has expressed his condolences on the loss of lives. He has also directed the local authorities and the district administration to ensure prompt rescue and relief and see to it that the injured get the best of treatment.
