KANPUR || Gangster Vikas Dubey who was killed in an encounter with the UP Police’s Special Task Force (STF) earlier in the day was late on Friday cremated at the electric crematorium in Kanpur. Police said he was killed in a gun battle with the police after he snatched the pistol of a cop and fled the accident site in Kanpur where the vehicle he was travelling in turtled due to heavy rains and a slippery road.
While there is wide speculation that an angry police force eliminated him in cold blood and faked the encounter, the UP police are sticking to its version. Vikas Dubey was rushed to the Hallet hospital in Kanpur where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Video grabs showed blood on his chest, indicating that he was shot in the chest.
An autopsy was conducted on him later but before that, a COVID-19 test was done on him. When it turned out to be negative, he was taken for post-mortem.
His body was cremated at the Bhairav Ghat electric crematorium in presence of his wife Richa and some relatives. In an intriguing development, the widow of the gangster however hurled the choicest of abuses on the waiting media persons and even went on to say that she “will settle scores at an opportune time”.
When media persons shouted back and asked on why she was ill-treating and abusing them, she said it was the media who was responsible for the killing of her husband. In a related development, a social activist Nutan Thakur, based in Lucknow has complained to the NHRC, alleging that Dubey was killed in a fake made up encounter.
A Kanpur lawyer has also filed an e-complaint with the Supreme Court calling it a clod blooded murder and seeking a probe by a sitting SC judge.
