LUCKNOW || Under fire from people, opposition parties and the media over the provident Fund scam in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday took a major action against former UPPC managing director AP Mishra, who was arrested by the economic offences wing (EoW) of the UP Police.
Sources said that the state government had already decided to crackdown of the suspect officials and AP Mishra, who was thrice given extension in the Akhilesh Yadav government, was being watched and tracked.
Both his Aliganj and Gomtinagar residences were under surveillance and after a go-ahead from the top brass, an EoW team picked the former top power official and took him to an undisclosed location for questioning.
The UP government has already recommended a CBI probe into the Rs 2268 crore PF scam, which jolted the Yogi Adityanath government like never before. The official Twitter handle of the UP chief ministers sent out a series of tweets of Mishra’s arrest seeking answers from former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on his connection with Mishra and on reasons why he gave the official three extensions.
