BHOPAL || Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Babu Lal Gaur passed away in a hospital on Wednesday. The 89-year-old Gaur had been in the hospital for the past few days after he developed complications, owing to low blood pressure.
He had been on ventilator and life support for the past few days and his condition deteriorated ever since. A string of BJP leaders had visited him during his stay in the hospital. Gaur, often in news for his controversial remarks, served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh from August 2004 to November 2005.
Born on June 2, 1930, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was credited with expanding BJP’s footholds in Madhya Pradesh but he quit active politics, citing old age, last year. Former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan condoled the demise of Gaur and remembered him as a champion of the poor, downtrodden and the marginalised.
