LUCKNOW || Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday questioned the Narendra Modi and the Yogi Adityanath government on the migrant labour crisis and said that rather than taking to the media and going on an advertisement blitzkrieg, they should focus on the on-ground realities.
Referring to the exodus of labourers from major cities and their going back to home towns and villages, the former UP chief minister said that while the UP government was tom-tombing data and statistics to claim that all was well, the ground reality was completely different.
“The situation of these labourers who set for home on foot, some hitching car rides etc is actually very grim,” the four-time UP chief minister said. The prospects of their remaining unemployed also are looming large on their minds, she said while suggesting that the government should immediately intervene to bring them out of despair.
She, however, lauded the Supreme Court for directing the government to ensure that all migrant labourers are transported safely to their homes in a fixed timeline.
