Foresters Bust Parrot Smuggling Racket In UP, 500 Birds Seized

GORAKHPUR || In a major breakthrough, the special task force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh forests department busted a parrot smuggling gang in Gorakhpur district of the state, an official said. Six persons of the gang were arrested and sent to jail. These included a woman.

TN Singh, a forest officer of the division told the media that they acted on a tip-off and that they were astounded by the number of birds in their captivity.

“Over 500 parrots were found in the gang’s possession. They were on way to being smuggled in various parts of the state” he added. The price tag for a parrot varied anywhere between Rs 300-500, the gang members told the STF officials.
