NEW DELHI || The four convicts in the heart-wrenching Nirbhaya gang-rape case will be sent to the gallows on January 22, a Delhi court said on Tuesday. The four convicts will be hanged to death on January 22 at 7 am, the court has ruled. It has also issued a death warrant.
The Patiala Court also said that the four convicts can “use their legal remedies within 14 days“. Lawyer for the four convicts, AP Singh told news reporters soon after that they will be filing a curative petition in the Supreme Court. The 2012 Delhi gang-rape case involved a rape and fatal assault that occurred on 16 December 2012 in Munirka, a neighbourhood in South Delhi.
The entire nation was shaken by the barbaric nature of the crime in which the victim eventually died during treatment. Four men, Pawan Gupta, Mukesh, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Kumar Singh are on death row after being held guilty of Nirbhaya’s gang-rape, torture and killing on 16 December 2012.
