Court Trashes Police’s Final Report In Facebook Kidney Racket

LUCKNOW || The Special CJM Custom Lucknow Sudesh Kumar has dismissed the closure report filed by Lucknow police in the FIR registered by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur at Gomtinagar police station, Lucknow in May 2014 against an alleged Kidney racket on Facebook.

In FIR No 333/2014 under sections 270, 336, 403, 413, 414, 420, 467, 468, 511 IPC and 19, the Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994, Amitabh had said that one Anurag Joshi had contacted him on Facebook for sale of kidney at around 3 lakhs, for which he would have to come to Pune and from there to Iran.

The crime branch, Lucknow closed the case saying that since there was no actual sale and purchase of kidneys, hence no crime had taken place. Amitabh’s counsel Dr Nutan Thakur had argued that the police has undertaken an extremely superficial investigation in this extremely sensitive case.

The Court said that the police investigation is superficial, hence dismissing the Final Report it has directed Inspector Gomtinagar for further investigation in the matter.
