CAT Asks UP Govt To Wrap Up Dept Probe Against IPS In Four Months

LUCKNOW || In yet another embarrassment for the government in Uttar Pradesh, the Lucknow bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has directed it to conclude a departmental enquiry against senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Amitabh Thakur within a period of 04 months.

The bench of Judicial member Jasmine Ahmad and Administrative member Devendra Chaudhary passed this order after hearing Amitabh and State government Counsel S S Rajawat.

CAT said that the IPS officer has prayed for completion of the enquiry in three months while the State government has sought four months for it. Hence CAT directed the enquiry to be concluded in four months, asking Thakur to fully cooperate in the process.

This is the fifth Departmental enquiry against Amitabh where he has been accused of presenting his Property returns for years 1992 to 2000 together in 2001. Previously four enquiries were initiated against him in 2015-16, which remain pending, regarding which CAT has issued Contempt notice against Additional Chief Secretary, Home Avanish Awasthi.
