LUCKNOW || Violence broke out in Hasanganj area of the state capital on Thursday afternoon as angry mobs, protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) vandalised public property, attacked a police station and also set on fire some vehicles. An angry mob ransacked the Madeganj police station in Hasanganj and torched some vehicles parked outside.
Police cane charges the demonstrators and chased them away. District Magistrate of Lucknow, Abhishek Prakash said the situation had been brought under control after mild use of force.
He said protestors were breaking the prohibitory orders and hence moderate force was used. The DM also said that there was a stone-pelting in some areas.
IG, Lucknow Zone SK Bhagat told media persons that some 300-400 protestors had gathered at the Parivartan Chowk. They were sent back due to prohibitory orders after the district officials accepted there memorandum addressed to the state government.
After targeting the Madeganj police station, the mob also vent its ire on the Satkhanda police chowki in Thakurganj which was also set ablaze.
