CAA Protest : Mob Goes Berserk In Hazratganj, Pelts Stone At Police

LUCKNOW || Protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) turned violent on Thursday evening in Lucknow’s Hazratganj area near the Parivartan Chowk. Police resorted to cane charge following heavy stone pelting from the protestors.

In the melee, an OB van belonging to a media house was also set on fire. Visuals from the Parivartan Chowk show stones and brockets strewn all over the road leading from Qaiserbagh, towards the Old High Court.

Earlier violence broke out in Hasanganj area of the state capital on Thursday afternoon as angry mobs, protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) vandalised public property, attacked a police station and also set on fire some vehicles. An angry mob ransacked the Madeganj police station in Hasanganj and torched some vehicles parked outside.

Police cane charged the demonstrators and chased them away. District Magistrate of Lucknow, Abhishek Prakash said the situation had been brought under control after mild use of force.

He said protestors were breaking the prohibitory orders and hence moderate force was used. The DM also said that there was a stone-pelting in some areas.
