After Mob Frenzy On CAA UP Calm, Internet-Mobile Services Pulled Down

LUCKNOW || A day after violence scarred many places in the state, including the state capital, the Uttar Pradesh government asked the internet and mobile service providers to shut down the internet services. In view of the government diktat, lakhs of mobile phones in the state capital and places like Ghaziabad and Noida, SMS and WhatsApp came to a grinding halt.

Extra police deployment has also been made across the state, especially in wake of the Friday prayers, as the intelligence set up apprehends trouble. Heavy police posses have been deployed in the old city and in places where the violence took place on Thursday. The ongoing exams at the Lucknow university have been cancelled for Friday and Saturday.

They will be rescheduled later, an official informed. The internet and short messaging services (SMS) will be down till Saturday noon. Senior officials said that after a dressing down by the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the home department and police officials have made an action plan which call is “foolproof” and one “which leaves little or no scope of a repeat of violence“.

Community leaders, educationists have also been told by the government to counsel people of not getting into an agitation mode.
