LUCKNOW || Faced with all-round criticism over failing law and order, the Yogi Agidtyanath government on Monday acted swiftly after six murder took place in Prayagraj in less than 12 hours and removed the district police chief Atul Sharma and attached him to the DGP headquarters in Lucknow.
The state government named Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj as his replacement and he has been asked to assume charge of the sensitive post with immediate effect, an official informed.
Growing crimes in the holy city of Prayagraj had come in as a big embarrassment for the state’s BJP government and the six murders over a short span of 12 hours seems to have been the final nail.
Only hours back, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had taken to Twitter to slam the state government over the soaring crimes and had called Uttar Pradesh a ‘Hatya Pradesh’ (murder State). He had also questioned the ruling BJP on whether this was the image of UP that it wanted to present before the country and the world.
