NEW DELHI || BJP patriarch Lal Krishna Advani has welcomed the Supreme Court (SC) verdict on the Ayodhya dispute. The unanimous judgement by a five-judge bench of the apex court had on Saturday pronounced that the disputed land belonged to Ram Lalla and had ordered the government of India to constitute a Trust within three months to oversee the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
The former deputy prime minister said that he “welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court” and also approved of its order that five acres land be given to Muslims for construction of a mosque elsewhere in the temple town.
It was way back in 1989 that Advani had the agenda of construction of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya included in BJP’s manifesto.
He led a Rath Yatra thereafter propelling the issue and his party to national centre stage. “I stand vindicated and also feel deeply blessed that the SC has given a unanimous verdict in favour of a temple of Lord Ram,” the 92-year-old politician said. Earlier, another party heavyweight Uma Bharati called on Advani, her mentor and hailed his role in bringing the Ram temple movement to a stage that it became an issue that stirred everyone.
