LUCKNOW || The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday tore into the Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh after media reports surfaced that nine underage minor girls in a UP Juvenile Centre of Kanpur were found to be pregnant.
Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said the UP government “was trying to whitewash the shameful incident” and that it needed to respond to the people on what the actual facts were. “Instead of trying to dig into the facts on how this incident happened, they are now shamelessly saying that these girls were brought to Kanpur from other places“, Singh, who is also the AAP’s in-charge of UP said.
The leader also said that even if this was true, it was certain that these minor girls were raped in UP and hence there must be some paper trail of FIR’s, action taken against the aggressors. Let the state government make it public, he demanded, while also informing that a statewide agitation would be launched by AAP across Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
He also sought to know how many girls have tested positive for Coronavirus when they were inside the centre. “The DM, Commissioner and other senior officials cannot escape from their responsibility, they should come clean on the whole matter as it is very serious“, the AAP leader stated further.
