113 Arrested In UP for Violent CAA Protests

LUCKNOW || As many as 113 persons have been arrested so far across Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in rioting and violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), police said.

IG (Law & Order) Praveen Kumar informed the media that there were stray protests and demonstrations at some places in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and that all those who broke the prohibitory orders clamped under the section 144 have been arrested.

Action as per law established was being taken against all these people, the police official informed.

He also clarified that the mob violence in Mau district on Monday has been contained and that on the instructions of the DGP O P Singh, ADG (Prosecution) Ashutosh Pandey has already reached Mau and that situation was now normal.

Police officials also said that the social media posts were being closely monitored as miscreants could try and foment trouble by spreading fake news and rumours. Police picketing has been increased in all districts and educational institutions have been asked to step up vigil and ensure that their students do not indulge in any kind of protests, sit-in’s or demonstrations as has been the case in Jamia Milia Islamia, Nadwa and the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
